Croatian translation of War Hotel. UNHCR sponsors a dialogue in Zagreb

Arlene’s book The WAR HOTEL: Psychological Dynamics in Violent Conflict has been translated and published in Croatian. The Croatian translation is SVRATISTE RATA. The translation and publisher are Paralele.  The United Nations High Commission for Refugees sponsored a special event in Zagreb using this opportunity to reopen discussions about what is needed in the region concerning reconciliation and prevention of future violence.  It was a deep honour, especially to know the book could be useful in contributing to essential dialogue in the region.
Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia, Slobodan Uzelac spoke eloquently about the theme of War Hotel, as did Ambassador Nienke Trooster, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Croatia  and Wilfried Buchhorn, UNHCR reprepresentative in Croatia . Nives Ivelja and  Milan Bijelić, of Association Mi and Dr. Miroslava Kralj, participant in the project, spoke about ‘Building Sustainable community in the Aftermath of the War’ the project facilitated by Arye and Audergon over the years in Croatia. There were then talks by Dr Dražen Lalic, The Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb, and reviewer of War Hotel, Robert Mandić, of Publisher Paralele as well as Arlene Audergon (author).

We were also honoured that this event was attended by Mr. Vincent Degert, head of the Delegation of the European Commission to the Republic of Croatia and several ambassadors. Other guests included people in media, from various NGO’s and international organisations, and  several people who had participated in forums in Croatia.  A television interview with Arlene following the event appeared on Croatia Television, Cenzura, along with a discussion with Professor Urlic who also reviewed War Hotel, and Nives Ivelja of Association Mi.
